Terms and privacy

Who can use Tonight

• You must be 18 or older. By signing in you confirm that you are.
• You must be the person in your photos, and you must have the right to use them.
• One account per person. Accounts can't be shared or sold.

What Tonight is, and isn't

Tonight helps adults who are in the same place meet each other. That's all it does. What happens after two people connect is between them, and every part of it needs to be agreed freely by both.

• No payments, no selling. Don't ask for money, offer money, or advertise paid services or products. Accounts that do will be removed.
• Nothing illegal. Tonight can't be used to arrange or promote anything that breaks the law.
• No pressure. "No" means no, at any point, including after you've met. Stop messaging anyone who says no.
• No harassment, hate, threats, or explicit images sent to people who didn't ask for them.
• No impersonation, fake profiles, scraping, or spam.

Messages and requests

• The first message you send to someone is a request. You get one message. They can Accept, choose Not now, or Block.
• If they choose Not now, you are not told. You can't send more messages unless they accept later.
• Photos can only be sent after both of you are chatting.

Likes

The heart on a profile adds that person to your Likes list. The list is private. The other person is never told.

Verification

• New members are asked to verify before they can see or meet anyone: you set up your profile, then record a short selfie video with your camera. You can't upload one from your gallery. While a reviewer checks it, you'll see a "verification in progress" screen.
• You'll be asked to say a random code out loud, so we can tell the video is new.
• A reviewer checks that it is really you, that you match your profile photos, and that the gender on your profile is right.
• Your video is stored privately and seen only by reviewers. It is deleted as soon as it has been reviewed. If nobody reviews it, it is deleted automatically after a few days. You can withdraw and delete it yourself at any time.
• We keep only the outcome (verified or not) and, if rejected, the reason. We don't use the video for anything else.
• Verified means a reviewer saw a real person who matches the profile. It does not mean we know anything else about them, so keep using your judgment.
• If you change the gender on your profile after verifying, the badge is removed until you verify again.

Photos in chat

• Photos you send in chat can be opened once, for about a minute, and are then deleted. A photo that is never opened is deleted after two days.
• We can't stop screenshots or a second phone. We close the photo when you leave the page and add a name watermark, but these only discourage copying. Only send what you are comfortable with.
• Never take a screenshot of, or share, a photo someone sent to you privately.

Staying safe

• Never send money (taxi or Uber fare, airtime, deposits, "emergencies") to someone you haven't met in person. Real matches don't ask. Report anyone who does.
• Meet in a public place first, and tell a friend where you're going and who with.
• Arrange your own transport so you can leave when you want to.
• Don't share your home address, workplace, or financial details with someone you've just met.
• Use Block and Report on any profile. If you think you're in danger, contact your local emergency services.

Your information

• What we store: your email address, the profile details you enter, your photos, your messages, your preferences, your approximate location (if you share it), and who you've liked or blocked. Verification videos and chat photos are kept only for the short times described above.
• Location: if you share your location, we store a rounded position (about 100 metres) and use it to show people nearby. Other members only ever see a rounded distance such as "3 km away", never a map position. To turn city and place names into coordinates we send your rounded position, or the city you type, to a map service (Google, or OpenStreetMap if no Google key is set). You can switch location sharing off any time in My profile, and then only your city is used.
• Who sees what: only signed-in members can see profiles and photos. Your age is never shown on cards, and only on your profile page if you turn that on. Your contact details are shown only to people whose request you accept.
• Your email is never shown to other members and is used only to sign you in.
• We don't sell your data.
• Deleting: you can delete your account any time from My profile. Your profile disappears straight away: nobody can see it or message you, and you are signed out. Your data is then permanently erased by our team. Ask us if you want to know when that will happen for your account.
• Reports and blocks are kept so that we can keep the community safe.
• Deleting your account straight away also deletes any photos you sent that haven't been opened yet, and any verification video still waiting.

Our right to act

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules, or that put other members at risk, without notice. Tonight is provided as-is. We don't check members' identities or backgrounds, so please use your own judgment.
